The Meeting

Dave Bruce introduced Sophie Handford with a long list of achievements she already racked up in her 19 years.

Sophie spoke about her portfolios on council -  Climate and Youth.  She is on the Council and Strategy & Operations Committee and has other appointments on the Youth Council and Wellington Region Climate Change Working Group.

She described how her campaign for election was quite different and full of young people most still at college.  They did things quite differently from the "normal" campaign and clearly it worked!

Sophie is passionate about climate change and is keen to find opportunities to improve the Council's performance on climate change initiatives.  Although as an organisation the KCDC is one of the better performing councils in NZ

Sophie has already formed alliances with other councillors with complementary portfolios to hers and they meet regularly to discuss issues and how to respond to them.

There were numerous questions of Sophie, which was a reflection of the issues the Kapiti Community (and NZ, and the world) are facing today.

It was great to see partners and some guests there to hear Sophie speak.
